Moffitt Cancer Center offers one position in a one-year Colorectal Surgical Oncology Fellowship for trained surgeons with a strong interest in the surgical care of colon and rectal cancers. Candidates must be graduates of a US medical school, have completed a general surgery residency, and have completed or be completing an ACGME-accredited Colon and Rectal Surgery residency or Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship. American Board of Surgery certification or eligibility is required, and candidates must be eligible for Florida medical licensure before the start date.
The 12-month curriculum is designed to build expertise in the multimodality management of colorectal cancer and operative techniques of colorectal cancer surgery: robotic and other minimally invasive resection, cytoreductive surgery with intraperitoneal chemotherapy, and exenterative resections, with an expected exposure to approximately 150 major operative cases. The fellow trains with Moffitt’s colorectal and peritoneal surface oncology faculty in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology.
The fellow will work with faculty from the Colorectal and Peritoneal Surface Malignancy teams, typically on 2-month rotation blocks. The fellow carries responsibility for preoperative evaluation and postoperative care of the service’s patients and operates under the direction of the attending surgeon, with independence that increases over the year. The Fellow takes part in outpatient clinics, rounds, lectures, seminars, journal club, and research conferences, and shares responsibility for supervising and teaching residents and medical students.
